I keep looking out at my backyard hoping to see more signs of spring. It’s really the colours and freshness of the season that I’m craving, followed of course by barbecues on the patio and the fun of summer.
This afternoon the Performing Arts Centre will be full of family fun as The Velveteen Rabbit comes to stage. It’s a beautiful story about a child’s stuffed rabbit coming to life through the power of love.
There are two performances to choose from starting at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and tickets can still be purchased through the Ticket Seller one hour before the performances or online at www.ticketseller.ca.
Powerhouse Theatre’s Rabbit Hole starts its run April 20.
It’s a (2007) Pulitzer Prize-winning drama about a family whose world gets turned upside down in a tragic accident.
The show starts at 8 p.m. from April 20 to 23, and April 26 to 30. There is also a matinee performance April 24 starting at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469).
Coming up Thursday, April 21 is the Tome-Vernon Sister Cities fundraiser. Attend a special family event at Spirit Square (3400-34th Street) where you can fold paper cranes for a donation.
A gala event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre where there will be live entertainment and an art auction.
All proceeds will be sent to Tome, Japan which was impacted by the devastating earthquake on March 11, 2011.
With a federal election fast approaching May 2, Vernon’s eligible voters are undoubtedly in the process of mulling over how to cast their ballots.
On April 26, all four Okanagan-Shuswap candidates will be at the Performing Arts Centre for the federal election forum to help with the decision.
The forum will provide an opportunity for candidates to state their platforms, and for the public to ask questions of the election hopefuls.
It starts at 7 p.m. and admission is by donation and all proceeds go towards the purchase of theatre tickets for charitable organizations.
And Ballet Victoria finishes out the Vernon Performing Arts Centre’s 2010/2011 presentation season April 30 with Carmen and Other Works.
In the first half of the show, the company is inviting the audience to take part in a unique Twitter-based dance improvisation. The second half of the show is Carmen. This famous novella-turned-opera was choreographed by Ballet Victoria’s artistic director Paul Destrooper.
