Victoria-based singer joined by locals Ron Hadley, Rick Kilburn for Songs from the Movies concert at TOSH

Versatile jazz vocalist Miranda Sage will share a mix of old favourites and rare gems when The Old School House Arts Centre kicks off its Jazz at Seven series with Songs from the Movies on Friday, March 4.

The Victoria-based chanteuse will be backed by local pros Ron Hadley on piano and Rick Kilburn on bass for an evening of movie theme songs and standards spanning decades.

Sage was born in England and raised in Victoria in a musical family that includes uncle Nick Newall of the Kinks. She is a classically-trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who lived and performed in Spain, England and the U.S. before retiring from performing to raise a family.

Gage returned to music in the late 90s, studied jazz with luminaries like Winstone, Sheila Jordan, Jay Clayton, and Louise Rose, and was championed by trombonist Hugh Fraser.

Her talent has attracted a team of collaborators among the finest musicians in the country – among them, Order of Canada-winning composer and multi-instrumentalist Don Thompson – and her style has earned praise from media around the world.

The concert begins at

7 p.m. Tickets are $18, or $15 for TOSH members, and can be ordered or picked up at The Old School House Arts Centre, 122 Fern Road West in Qualicum Beach. For more information, call 250-752-6133 or visit www.theoldschoolhouse.org.
