As it celebrates its 20th anniversary, the Chemainus Theatre Festival wants to say thank you to the community by opening its doors and pulling the curtain back.
The Chemainus Theatre Festival is staging a giant open house this Friday (Aug. 17) to celebrate its 20th season of live professional theatre.
The open house, which is open to everyone, begins at 11 a.m. and runs through to 5:30 p.m. The event features a host of a free interactive activities for the whole family, along with a performance of the interactive KidzPlay Animal Tales at 2 p.m. and a special performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at 7:30 p.m., which includes a mix and mingle with cast members over dessert during intermission. “The entire day is a big thank you to the community of Chemainus and all those who have supported the theatre through its first 20 seasons,” Randal Huber, the theatre’s managing director, said in a press release.
“It is a great privilege to produce theatre in this beautiful seaside village and serve the residents of Vancouver Island,” added artistic director Mark DuMez.
The Chemainus Theatre’s 20th-anniversary open house begins with a Theatre Camp performance at 11 a.m.
Starting at 11:30 a.m., there will be a Touch and See Open House, featuring select set models, props and costumes and backstage tours. Visitors will have a chance to look behind the curtain of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, and there will be prop building, puppetry workshops and face painting activities.
There will be a performance of Animal Tales at 2 p.m., followed by free ice cream courtesy of Island Farms and Farmer Vicki at 3 p.m.
At 3:30 p.m., visitors can take a trip down memory lane and watch 20 Songs and Scenes from 20 Seasons in the Theatre.
A special performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starts at 7:30 p.m.
