The Campbell River Children’s Choir presents its spring concert “Now’s The Time” twice this Saturday at St. Peter’s Anglican Church.
The concert will feature more than 70 performers in three different choirs singing music that ranges from 17th century composer Henry Purcell to jazz great Charlie Parker.
Special guests “The Wire Choir” featuring Grahame Edwards, Grant McLellan and Dave Blinzinger, will add their cool jazz sound the event, and former choir member Sheila Allenbach returns from university in South Carolina just in time to add her crystalline flute playing to several pieces.
The choir will be premiering a piece specially arranged for the the choir by Vancouver Island compo ser and former “Island Girl” Georgina Nicoll.
The choir is also preparing for a youth festival in Tacoma, Washington, in June. The singers will have the honour to work under the direction of world renowned conductor and composer André Thomas.
Dr. Thomas is an icon in the choral world. His international conducting credits are extensive. He is in demand as a choral adjudicator, clinician, and director of Honour/All-State Choirs throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia.
“It is an amazing opportunity for our young singers to work with a conductor of global stature, says Children’s Choir director Barbara Prowse.
