Chilliwack International Spring Film Series returns to Cottonwood 4 Cinemas

Put a spring in your step with the Chilliwack International Spring Film Series' feature titles

Travel the globe, meet intriguing characters, and share stories all from the comfort of your theatre seat with the Chilliwack International Spring Film Series.

The Chilliwack International Film Series is a semi-annual event series that showcases the best of cinema from around the world. Presented by Cottonwood 4 Cinemas and sponsored by the Chilliwack Community Arts Council, the film series has screenings every Wednesday evening and runs April 3 to May 8.

Following last season’s popularity, two screenings will continue to be held on each film date to accommodate more film fans. Filmgoers may enjoy an afternoon screening at 3:30 p.m. or an evening screening at 7 p.m.

This season’s line-up of critically-acclaimed featured film titles includes:

April 3 • Stan & Ollie – UK / 1h 38min. / G / Biography, Comedy, Drama. Director: Jon S. Baird. Stars: John C. Reilly, Steve Coogan. Synopsis: Laurel and Hardy, the world’s most famous comedy duo, attempt to reignite their film careers as they embark on what becomes their swan song – a grueling theatre tour of post-war Britain.

April 10 • Cold War – Poland / 1h 29min. / 14A / Drama, Music, Romance. Director: Pawel Pawlikowski. Stars: Joanna Kulig, Tomasz Kot. Synopsis: In the 1950s, a music director falls in love with a singer and tries to persuade her to flee communist Poland for France.

April 17 • The Woman Who Loves Giraffes – Canada / 1h 23min. / PG / Documentary. Director: Alison Reid. Stars: Fred Bercovitch, Lisa Clifton-Bumpass. Synopsis: Dr. Anne Innis Dagg re-traces the steps of her groundbreaking 1956 journey to South Africa to study giraffes in the wild – and discovers a startling contrast between the world of giraffes she once knew and the one it has become. Weaving through the past and present, her harrowing journey gives us an intimate look into the factors that destroyed her career and the forces that brought her back.

April 24 • Shoplifters – Japan / 2h 1min. / PG / Crime, Drama. Director: Hirokazu Koreeda. Stars: Lily Franky, Sakura Andô. Synopsis: A family of small-time crooks take in a child they find outside in the cold.

May 1 • Through Black Spruce – Canada / 1h 51min. / NR / Drama. Director: Don McKellar. Stars: Tanaya Beatty, Cait Alexander. Synopsis: The disappearance of a young Cree woman in Toronto traumatizes her Northern Ontario family, and sends her twin sister on a journey south to find her.

May 8 • Best of Cannes Commercials – 1h 52min. / 14A. Director: Various clever directors. Stars: Celebrities, adorable animals, and oh, some actors too! The most creative commercials from around the world.
