Have you always dreamed of being a part of the thrill and excitement of a high-stakes who-done-it murder investigation, but thought you lacked the detective skills or nerve? Your chance has arrived: the Chilliwack Players Guild is hosting auditions for 13 roles in their upcoming rendition of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Nile.
Set in the 1940s on a paddle steam ship sailing down Egypt’s Nile River, a group of guests work together to solve a murder that occurs while on the cruise.
“Agatha Christie is well-known,” said Debra Archer, who’s been with the Guild for more than 40 years. “And when it’s something people know, they’re happy to come out to a show.”
But more than just a well-known show, Archer says audiences want to see a good performance, which is why auditions are such an important part of the process.
“The auditions are open to anybody,” explained Archer, who’s also the show’s producer. If interested in participating, Archer says the best way to get in the action is to attend an audition, and even if one isn’t ready to take to the stage, there are always other areas where people can help, such as set building or prop picking.
“There’s something for everybody,” Archer added.
Auditions will be held on June 24 and 25 at The Guildhall (45530 Spadina Ave.): the 24’s auditions will start at 1:00 p.m., and the 25’s auditions will start at 7:00 p.m. Once selected for a role, performers will have to become a member of the Guild if not already ($15 annual membership fee) and commit themselves to rehearsals, which will be on Sunday afternoons, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
The final performance will take run from Nov. 22 to Dec. 2, 2018, in the Chilliwack Cultural Centre’s Rotary Hall.
