Choir ‘echoes’ music choice

The Island Consort chamber choir presents Echoes, a program of pairs of titles that reveals the contrasts in compositions and composers.

The singers pair Rossini’s 19th century Ave Maria with the Renaissance version by Josquin de Prez. The 17th century written It was a Lover and His Lass by Morley is paired with that by contemporary English composer John Rutter.

The concert’s main event will be Handel’s Chandos Anthem No. 6, a 20-minute work featuring soprano Skye Donald and tenor David Brown as well as accompaniment by players from the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra.

The concert is set for April 17, 7:30 p.m., at Brechin United Church. Tickets are $15 (under 12 free) at Fascinating Rhythm and the Quilted Duck.
