Choir spreads yuletide cheer

NANAIMO - The Malaspina Choir holds its sixth annual Sing-along Messiah concert Sunday (Dec. 13).

Malaspina Choir members are spreading good tidings this December during the sixth annual Sing-along Messiah concert.

The concert is Sunday (Dec. 13) 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church, located at 311 Fitzwilliam St.

The choir is sharing proceeds from the event with Nanaimo’s Haven Society.

The concert features a rendition of Handel’s Messiah, under the guidance of Lionel Tanod, the choir’s artistic director. The Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra accompanies the choir during its performance, which includes songs such as Hallelujah, Glory to God, For Onto Us and others.

Guest performers include Andrea Rodall, Julian Morgan, David Brown and Steven Price.

Rodall, a soprano singer, is attending the University of Victoria and studying vocal performance. The graduate student received her bachelor of music, with distinction in vocal performance, from the University of Calgary.

Morgan is a mezzo-soprano and has performed in Essential Opera and Opera Rattenbury.

Brown is a tenor who began studying music in England when he was seven. He has performed with choirs throughout Canada and is a founding member of Island Consort.

Price plays the bass during the concert and has performed in Canada, the United States and Europe.

He has also worked as a vocal and choral adjudicator and clinician.
