Choreographer dances into the Harbour City

Gymnopédies and Mouvements begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Port Theatre.

Pianos, performers, silhouettes and sequences. That’s what Nanaimoites can expect when renowned Quebec choreographer Marie Chouinard takes control of the Port Theatre.

Tonight (Feb. 24) Chouinard will be showing her newest pieces, Gymnopédies and Mouvements at the Port Theatre.

Gymnopédies features 10 dancers performing to the music of French composer Érik Satie, while Mouvements features dancers who will form silhouettes and sequences to mirrors projections of drawings by Belgian poet Henri Michaux.

Chouinard, an officer of the Order of Canada, said she wants people to be moved by her works.

“I hope it is an esthetic and emotional and human experience,” Chouinard said.

Gymnopédies and Mouvements begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $55. The show features some nudity. For tickets call the Port Theatre box office at 250-754-8550.arts@nanaimobulletin.comFollow @npescod on Twitter
