Christian transgender documentary to be screened at Chilliwack Cultural Centre

Belonging in the Body: Transgender Journeys of Faith was created by Generous Ministries

A new, local grassroots organization in Chilliwack striving for gender equality for all is hosting a documentary-screening event at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre that’s aimed at helping Chrisitians undersand the transgender experience.

The Chilliwack Gender Care Committee is inviting residents who would like to understand transgender experiences from a Christian perspective to their screening of Belonging in the Body: Transgender Journeys of Faith, a documentary film that follows the stories of 11 trans Christians.

Following the 60-minute film, there will be a Question & Answer period hosted by Beth Carlson-Malena, who’s the director of community for Generous Space Ministries, who created the video.

According to their website, Generous Space Ministries “hopes to eliminate fear, division, and hostility at the intersection of faith, gender, and sexuality” through opening conversations to create “communities marked by a sense of belonging, authenticity, and diversity.”

The screening takes place on Tuesday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m. The event is free, but attendees are asked to RSVP to chilliwackgenderevent@gmail.com to ensure adequate seating is available.
