Hope Arts Gallery is showcasing the watercolour paintings of Val Weismiller this month in the back room exhibition.
About 25 pieces will be on display, offering a unique perspective on coastal landscapes and seascapes.
“People will see some of the different colours, moods and scenes of different parts of the West Coast,” said Weismiller, who is from Bowser on Vancouver Island. “It kind of takes people to places they’ve never seen and are, in a lot of cases, hard to get to.”
Weismiller started taking watercolour lessons about 15 years ago and was instantly hooked on the art form.
“You can never produce two paintings the same because the water always reacts differently in every painting,” she said. “Some paintings are surprises the way they turn out and some are fairly predicable.”
The exhibit is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday until Oct. 28.
There will also be a free draw on Oct. 29 of a framed giclee print called Mussel Beach from entries submitted during the exhibition.
The Hope Arts Gallery is located at 349 Fort St.
