The Coldstream Live Music Society is about to welcome back Andrew Smith as the feature performer at the Coldstream Coffee House, Saturday, Jan. 17.

Smith is an accomplished singer-songwriter as well as a captivating tap-style guitarist and an award winning music producer.

He is one of the few Canadians to have won the prestigious Kerrville Newfolk Songwriting Competition in the U.S. with his songs Rite of Passage and Holes in the Night Sky.

Smith’s tap-style guitar playing is sought out for many collaborative projects and his instrumental CD, Escape Velocity, won him the Okanagan Instrumentalist of the Year award and has been nominated for many international awards. A music producer since 1998,  Smith also won the Okanagan Producer of the Year award.

These day, he plays in an indie-folk duo with his son Zachari. They have toured across Canada and Europe and their second CD, Stumbling Horse, was released in the spring of 2014.

When not touring, Andrew and Zachari spend their days working out of their Lake Studios, recording artists from the Okanagan and across Canada.

The Jan. 17 Coldstream Coffee House takes place at the Coldstream Women’s Institute Hall, located at 9909 Kalamalka Lake Rd.

The open mic portion of the show will precede the feature performance. Admission is $5, with a concession by donation. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.

More information on the coffee house is available in the Livewire section in Friday’s Morning Star, or on Facebook under Coldstream Coffee House.
