Columbia Basin hosting cultural tour

The Columbia Basin Culture Tour is coming up fast on Aug. 9 and 10.

The Columbia Basin Culture Tour, the annual tour that brings focus to the incredible art and culture that exists in the Columbia Basin, is coming up fast on Aug. 9 and 10.

This is the 6th time the self-directed tour has been organized in the four Kootenay Columbia regions by the Kootenay Columbia Cultural Alliance. It includes galleries, museums, studios, and stores, all for free.

The Art Gallery of Golden will be participating in the tour. During the Culture Tour, AGOG is featuring The Flathead Wild Art Exhibit which is the result of bringing together local artists into the wild Flathead River Valley for a week.

Five East Kootenay artists joined plein air painter Dwayne Harty for a multi‐day retreat to capture the scenic Flathead Valley in artwork, featuring works from Laura Nelson, Tara Higgins, Joseph Cross, Denise Lemaster, and Simon Haiduk. Also featured are works from Jackson Hole‐based artist Dwayne Harty; Banff National Park’s inaugural artist‐in‐residence and a renowned wildlife artist.

Any interested art enthusiasts who want to check out the rest of the event can head south and check out the multiple participating venues down the Columbia Valley.

This includes some studios that are often not open to the public, such as an artist’s personal home studio.

Tour brochures are available at tourist information centres and participating venues. Visit the website at www.cbculturetour.com to view full artist/venue profiles and for further details on each location’s activities.
