The Comox Valley Pipe Band Society is celebrating Robbie Burns on Jan. 26 with their 6th Annual Burns Dinner fundraiser in the Upper Lounge of the Royal Canadian Legion Comox Branch 160.

Each year, events are held around the world to commemorate the birth of the Scottish poet and lyricist Robbie Burns (Jan. 25, 1759 – July 21, 1796). The local celebration includes many facets of a traditional Burns Night, complete with piping in and addressing the haggis with Burns’ poem To A Haggis, toasts to the ‘lassies’ and ‘lads.’ The night begins with fellowship and a no-host bar at 6:15 p.m., followed by a roast beef dinner at 7 p.m. including salad, haggis, carrots, tatties, neeps, dessert and the opportunity to win some wonderful door prizes. The evening’s entertainment includes piping and drumming from The Comox Valley Pipe Band, and highland dancing from students of the Lori Tinkler School of Dance.

“Ticket sales are well underway and we are hopeful the community will come out to support us again,” said band member, Alexis Forbes.

The Comox Valley Pipe Band currently comprises more than 30 regular members and more than 10 student pipers and drummers.

“This is our principal fundraiser of the year and allows us to continue to instruct, equip, and outfit our growing membership and continue to provide appearances at community events,” said Forbes.

Tickets are $40. For more information, or to get your tickets, call 250-465-8260, email info@cvpbs.org or any talk to any pipe band member.
