The Comox Valley Art Gallery is hosting virtual and outdoor artmaking projects for all ages this weekend to mark the final days of the exhibition “Visible Labour.”
Art pop-up events will take place on the CVAG plaza at 580 Duncan Ave. in downtown Courtenay on Friday, May 28, from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, May 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
People can bring their own white T-Shirts to screen print and hand colour, as well as make posters and postcards. Workstations will be carefully spaced to ensure social distancing. Hand sanitizing and masks will be required.
“These pop-up artmaking activities will invite people to respond to artist Deborah Dumka’s interaction installation ‘Our Young Girls’,” said CVAG co-curator Angela Somerset. “Deborah’s work explores gender, digital empowerment, access, technology, safe spaces and art.”
Dumka’s work is one part of the larger “Visible Labour” exhibition, which has its last day on Saturday, May 29.
In addition to the outdoor artmaking, artist Anne Steves will lead a virtual collage-making event on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can find details and a link to the virtual event on the CVAG website: www.comoxvalleyartgallery.com.
CVAG is open Thursday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and starting June 16 it will also be open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. More pop up art events will take place on Wednesdays June 16, 23 and 30 from 1 to 7 p.m.
