The Canadian Missionary Kids Network (CMKN) hosts a dessert and concert evening on Saturday, April 16 in Abbotsford.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at Immanuel Fellowship Baptist Church (2950 Blue Jay St.). It includes dessert, door prizes, testimonies from missionary families, and features music by Carolyn Arends and her long-time musical partner Spencer Capier.

Arends has released 11 albums and is the author of three books. She is known for songs and books that stir the soul, and a warm, engaging style.

She is an adjunct professor at ACTS Seminary, Pacific Life Bible College and Columbia Bible College, and is also the director of education for Renovaré, an organization that encourages and nurtures spiritual renewal.

Capier is equally proficient on violin, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar, and the bouzouki.

Sponsored by Outreach Canada and the CMKN, the theme of the concert is Stronger Together.

The two groups are a network of 23 mission-sending and training organizations.

Missionary kids – also known as third culture kids – are those who have spent a portion of their formative years in a culture different than their parents’ or than their own passport indicates.

The CMKN provides support for these individuals through re-entry retreats, counselling, mentoring and coaching.

Last year’s benefit concert raised money for retreats in Alberta and Ontario and saw three matching donors multiply funds to a total of $85,000. This year, two donors have committed to match donations.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the House of James, online at canadianmk.net or at the door.
