Concert pianist, Clinton Denoni, returns to Hope for one-night-only concert

Denoni is hosting a by-donation piano concert on Jan. 19 to raise money for music in Hope

For a few years in his teens, Clinton Denoni lived in Hope. And while it wasn’t a long time, it was an impactful time, as the young musician says he’s never forgotten his time spent in the town surrounded by mountains.

“Lately I’ve been thinking about how I missed Hope and the people from Hope,” said Denoni during a telephone interview from his home in Kitsilano. “For three years years I spent so much of my time there, (and I was) really supported by the community and the friends I made there.”

So to give back to the community that gave him so much, Denoni is hosting a by-donation piano concert on January 19, at the Grace Baptist Church (949-3rd Ave.), with all proceeds going to support music in the community: the concert’s profits will be divided between Hope Secondary School’s music department and the Hope and District Arts Council. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert will start at 7, and run for about 75 minutes, said Denoni.

“My goal is to share music with as many people as possible; to get as many people as possible playing an instrument, listening to music, and experiencing different types of the art.

A renowned concert pianist, Denoni is preparing a delightful evening of classical music for Hope. “On the piano you can create these beautiful worlds of sound that you wouldn’t experience anywhere else,” explained the 29-year-old.

“If you’re having a bad day … and you’re not feeling that happy, (piano music makes) it all just go away. So with this concert, I hope to create an amazing experience for (the people of Hope), and bring them into my world of classical music.”

And while it’s been nearly a decade since Denoni last performed in Hope, he’s hoping to see a large crowd of people eager to hear what he’s prepared.

“I’ll be playing some of the most famous pieces (of piano music) ever written, like the Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven,” he explained. And he and his wife will also likely bring some “treats and drinks for people to enjoy.”
