Concert series continues with Affirmation and Jazz Band

Music lovers in Abbotsford and Mission will want to check out Hatzic Secondary School’s Affirmation and Jazz Band, live on Friday night.

The next show in the Envision Twilight Concert Series takes place June 7 and features Hatzic Secondary School’s Affirmation and Jazz Band.

The concert is set for 7 p.m. at Mission’s Fraser River Heritage Park.

Under the direction of Julie Aldridge, these talented music students, ranging in age from 12-17, rehearse diligently both at the school and on their own time and the payoffs have been enormous.  The group has performed in Whistler and Banff, and as far afield as New Orleans.

The Affirmation Vocal Jazz Choir, directed by Joseph Heslip, is an auditioned group which has been working tirelessly to be the best it can possibly be.

Admission to the concert is free, but donations to this community-based series are appreciated.

“Envision Financial is thrilled that Bronwen and Mark Sutherland, new producers of the Envision Twilight Concert series, and the Mission Heritage Association are partnering with Envision Financial’s community hunger reduction program, The Full Cupboard,” said Carol Hamilton, branch manager at Envision Financial’s Mission location.

“We hope concert goers will donate to the program by bringing a non-perishable food item or cash donation on Full Cupboard Fridays throughout the summer. All donations benefit St. Joseph’s food bank.”

On Wednesday, June 12, also at 7 p.m., the Envision Twilight Concert Series welcomes the Heritage Park Secondary School Jazz Band back to Fraser River Heritage Park.

Heritage Park’s music program has a history of success at provincial, national and even international events.

HPSS Jazz Band has represented the school very well at various concerts and events throughout the year, and will be playing a wide variety of big band arrangements, ranging from 1950s era swing to current alternative rock.
