B.C. singer/songwriter Tanya Lipscomb will perform at First United Church on Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

With passion and joy in her heart, and a new-found spiritual journey in her soul, B.C. singer/songwriter Tanya Lipscomb shares powerful and beautiful songs in a new concert series called Closer to God.

Using her three-octave voice, her guitar and piano, Lipscomb paints a musical picture of hope, joy, love, inspiration and her growing relationship with God.

“It doesn’t matter what faith you follow or your personal beliefs,” says Lipscomb. who believes everyone will feel the love and joy in her  music. “If I can lift one person’s spirits, or inspire even one person, then I feel as though I have accomplished something.”

Being no stranger to the music industry, Lipscomb has been performing music since she was a small child.

She has opened for and/or performed with the likes of Tom Cochrane, Wide Mouth Mason, B.B. King’s bassist for eight years, Russel Jackson, international jazz musician Luluk Perwanto and has won multiple awards for her song-writing and performance style.

She has toured across Western Canada for the past three years playing festivals and various venues.

Currently working on her sixth album, Lipscomb is excited to share some of the songs that will be on her latest creation.

Lipscomb’s Closer to God concert will be performed at First United Church on Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $10 at the door.

First United Church will provide entertainment, discussion and refreshments Wednesday nights during the 2011 thought-provoking Lenten Journey, designed to inspire.

Don’t miss the great little, animated movie with a message for all ages, UP, on March 30.

On Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. the documentary film Cure For Love will be shown.

Following the screening, there will be an opportunity to meet filmmaker Christina Willings.

Led by minister Juanita Austin, members of the public are invited to take part in a walking meditation  on the labyrinth located in the church hall, on April 6 at 7 p.m.

Unlike a maze whose purpose is to confuse, the labyrinth is a meditative prayer path that winds into the centre of the sacred circle and back out again.

The labyrinth has been in existence for more than 4,000 years, long before Christianity, and is an important spiritual tool to many peoples of the world.

First United Church, which is located on Okanagan Avenue, across from Fletcher Park, plans to host labyrinth walks Wednesday nights until June.
