An Abbotsford photographer has been named the Commercial Photographer of the Year by the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) for the second year in a row.

Jason Brown was among those across Canada competing in the recent 2015 National Image Salon during the Canadian Imaging Conference in Niagara Falls, Ont.

He also won the Best in Class award and earned a Judge’s Choice ribbon for his image “Angula Ascension” in the architecture class, as well as a Best in Class award for his image “Tri-volution” in the illustration category.

This year, almost 900 images were entered, with about half being accepted into the National Image Salon.

When assessing the submissions, the panel of master judges consider criteria such as impact, creativity, style, composition and technique.

Brown is a second-generation artist who has been pursuing photography since he bought his first SLR camera from the “Buckpasser” in 1997 and studied commercial photography at Langara College in Vancouver.

He has used his photography skills to support many non-profit organizations, including Run for Water, the Crystal Gala, We Day and Matthew’s House.

Brown has photographed celebrities such Nelly Furtado, Jennifer Hudson, Macklemore with Ryan Lewis, Selena Gomez and Nick Jonas for Free the Children’s We Day Events.

He has previously won top provincial and national awards for his commercial and portrait photography and holds nine accreditations from the PPOC.

Brown is a co-owner and principal photographer of Revival Arts in Abbotsford.
