Clement Battye, author and poet, died at age 99 and two years, later, in 2001, the Clem Battye Legacy Award was established in his honour, aimed at offering emerging writers and poets an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The 2011 writing contest is open to emerging writers of short fiction and poetry. Submissions can take the form of a single five-page short fiction work or five poems.
The contest deadline is July 30, with winners announced Aug. 31. Blind judging will be done by members of Penticton Writers and Publishers.
