Continuum Contemporary Music and Ballet Kelowna unite to present Renaissance – a concert of early music reimagined and choreographed with modern dance – Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 at Kelowna Community Theatre 7:30 p.m.
Inspired by early music master composers Henri Purcell, William Byrd and Marin Marais, Renaissance will showcase an ensemble of Canada’s finest choreographers, composers and dancers, including members of the National Ballet of Canada in a performance that transcends genres and centuries to masterfully re-imagine early music into modern dance form.
Two new works, one each by Canadian composers Jocelyn Morlock and Michael Oesterle, will receive their world premieres as part of Renaissance, as will new choreography by Heather Myers and Ballet Kelowna Artistic Director Simone Orlando.
The performance will be repeated in Oliver, BC (May 1) and Vancouver, BC (May 4-6, as part of Chutzpah!).
“I’m greatly excited to embark on this first-time collaboration between Continuum and Ballet Kelowna! In this extraordinary project we are pairing the finest in modern dance with music from the Renaissance era explored and conceived anew by some of Canada’s finest composers to create an incomparable experience for lovers of dance and music. Truly, it is a feast for the ears and the eyes!” – Ryan Scott, Artistic Director, Continuum Contemporary Music
