Coogan, Brydon take another trip

The Trip to Italy features more improvisation and impersonations by food and banter loving Brits, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.

Now that fall is here, moviegoers have a chance to think of warmer places with exotic scenery and great food when attending the Vernon Film Society’s next offering at the Vernon Towne Cinema Monday, Oct. 20.

The Trip to Italy is a follow up to the largely improvised The Trip, starring comedians Steve Coogan (Philomena) and Rob Brydon, which saw the pair wandering around Northern England eating and talking and impersonating many of their favourite movie stars.

This time, the witty and incisive follow-up shows the two retracing the steps of the romantic poets Byron and Shelley along the Amalfi coast, and to Pompeii and Rome.

They enjoy mouth watering meals in gorgeous settings while riffing on such subjects as varied as Batman’s vocal register, the artistic merits of Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill and, of course, the virtue of sequels.

Sophie Gilbert of The Atlantic states, “The movie exceeds even the first movie when it comes to sheer beauty, whether it’s the pair careening around steep Italian cliff roads in a tiny Mini Cooper or an extended shot of a plate of hand-made spaghetti that virtually wafts the scent of garlic and  Parmesan into the theatre.”

The Trip to Italy screens Monday at 5:15 and 7:45 p.m. at the Vernon Towne Cinema. All tickets are $7 available at the theatre and the Bean Scene one week ahead or at the door (cash only).
