Cordova Bay will come alive this month with the sounds of Matillda.
Lena Palermo is conducting a summer theatre camp at St. David’s by the Sea from Aug.15 to 26 to produce a production of the popular show critics are calling the latest Broadway sensation. Participants will work with Palermo and local choreographers during the camp.
“What better way to offer a musical theatre camp than to pick the newest most vibrant musical to include a cast of kids,” said Palermo, who trained at the world-renowned Juilliard School of Dance, Theatre and Music.
Palermo and her performing arts school, Toronto-based Star Potential Studios, will be working with budding talents between the ages of seven and 14 to produce the show, which will culminate with a performance on the final day, Aug. 26.
“After seeing the show on Broadway I knew it would be something that the kids would love,” said Palermo, a former performing arts department head at Claremont secondary school and director at the Ridge Playhouse. “We can’t wait to get Victoria talent involved. They’re learning script, songs and choreography in such an engaging way the kids will learn without even realizing it.”
