Toes were tapping and faces were grinning at the 12th Annual Cowboy Concert in 100 Mile House, Feb. 11.
The matinee and evening shows featured two young performers, Jayden Stafford, a cowboy poet, and musician Dale McEachern, along with storyteller and emcee Gord Colliar, and the Loose Rooster Band with Jim Karr and Dan Fremlin.
“Youth always appeals,” says Mark McMillan, one of the key organizers.
“People were amazed listening to 10-year-old Jayden Stafford, [and the fact] he could go on and on by memory. Some things he said were just hilarious coming from a 10-year-old.”
McEachern, 17, wowed the audience with his skill on guitar and fiddle, and Colliar’s humour had the audience in stitches, says McMillan.
“Loose Rooster, for some, was the favourite. Dan Fremlin can really pick a tune on the mandolin.”
Some 235 tickets were sold for each show and McMillan says there hardly appeared room for more people at the evening performance.
At press time, McMillan says he didn’t know how much money the show raised, but profits will be split evenly between the BC Cowboy Hall of Fame and the BC Cowboy Heritage Society student scholarship.
