Creston’s Footlighters casting December production, ‘Nana’s Naughty Knickers’

Following this weekend’s production of Shakespeare in the Park (Or Something Like It) VI, Footlighters Theatre Society’s 21st season continues, with auditions for Nana’s Naughty Knickers running at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Snoring Sasquatch.

The comedy runs Dec. 3-5 at Prince Charles Theatre and will be the first Footlighters production directed by Gary Atha, who was most recently seen onstage as ice cream shop propietor Pop Sicle in The Great Ice Cream Scheme.

Nana’s Naughty Knickers is the story of Sylvia Charles and her granddaughter Bridget, who are about to become roommates. Bridget’s unique opportunity to stay with her grandma in New York becomes an experience she’ll never forget when she discovers her grandma is running an illegal boutique from her apartment — selling naughty lingerie to senior citizens!

“I was involved in a production of this play several years ago, and it almost literally had the audience rolling in the aisles,” said Atha.

The production requires five women and three men, with three main female roles and one main male:

•Sylvia Charles — in her early eighties, living like she’s in her early twenties; the lingerie mastermind and the proud tenant of a rent controlled apartment;

•Vera Walters — Sylvia’s aged accomplice, equipped with two hearing aids and a collapsible walker;

•Bridget Charles — Sylvia’s unsuspecting, 20-something, soon-to-be-law-student granddaughter; and

•Tom O’Grady — the newest cop on the force, happily assigned the beat where Sylvia’s apartment is.

Other characters include Gil Schmidt, the landlord in his sixties, overly eager to rid himself of his aged tenants; Heather Van Pree, looking for better opportunities, a modeling career or just her boxes; a Big Client in her mid-sixties; a UPS man, cute and a little lonely; the Voice, a man at the front desk, slightly bored and always sarcastic.

Nana’s Naughty Knickers is the third production in Footlighters Theatre Society’s 2015-16 season, which included The Great Ice Cream Scheme last month and Shakespeare in the Park (Or Something Like It) VI this weekend, and concludes in March with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Other Desert Cities.
