Wondering what’s coming up in the Sunday Jazz at Crofton Hotel series during November?
The wait is over. First up, on Nov. 6 is the Swing Key Quartet, offering a variety of genres from swing to Latin.
Then, on Nov. 13 you’ll hear Vancouver vocalist Andrea Superstein with more swing and Latin, plus blues, and even a bit of pop and indie rock.
By Sunday, Nov. 20, it’ll be time for Groovin’ Hard Band with Doug Vandine. This 16-piece Big Band offers a variety that’s sure to please in its debut at the Crofton pub, series organizers say.
Named after the Don Menza tune that was a favourite of both Doc Severinsen’s and Buddy Rich’s big bands, Groovin’ Hard features a line of saxes, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section, and two accomplished vocalists in Alf Small and Linda Billings.
Finally, on Nov. 27, it’s the Arrowsmith Big Band led by Dave Stewart. This 18-piece aggregation consists of some of the best players on Vancouver Island and offers a repertoire of complex big band charts.
Admission to all shows is $15 at the door. The downbeat is at 2 p.m.
