David Fincher is probably the best movie director not to win an Academy Award.
After a less than successful start, both critically and commercially, with Alien 3, he rebounded with the hugely successful Seven.
Following that, he has had a non-stop series of critical and/or commercial successes with The Game, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The Social Club and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
He received previous Oscar nominations as best director for both Benjamin Button and The Social Network.
But Fincher might be headed for another nomination with Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry.
Affleck plays a man dealing with the disappearance of his wife and what appeared to be a blissful marriage that starts unraveling under the scrutiny of the police and the growing media frenzy. His lies, deceit and strange behaviour have everyone wondering if he killed his own wife.
Based upon the book of the same name, author Gillian Flynn (who also wrote the screenplay) promises a new twist that will surprise even those who read the novel.
Fans of the horror film The Conjuring will have reason to be frightened again with a prequel called Annabelle, which tells the origin of the evil doll. Originally a beautiful and rare vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress, Annabelle seems to be the perfect gift for a man’s pregnant wife and their unborn child, until on one horrific night, their home is invaded by members of a satanic cult and they are violently attacked. During the attack, the cultists conjure a malevolent entity that uses Annabelle to perform other sinister acts.
