Before Paul Walker’s tragic death last November, he had completed filming on Brick Mansions and partially completed his role in Fast & Furious 7. While the latter comes out next year, the former is getting released this weekend and the added attention caused by his death should benefit its box office.
Brick Mansions is a remake of the French film District 13, written and produced by Luc Besson and uses Parkour, the training discipline that uses the existing urban environment as an obstacle course.
Parkour creator David Belle starred in the original film and recreates his role, starring with Walker and rapper RZA, using the discipline (which has also been used in movies like The Bourne Identity and Casino Royale) for many of the action sequences which should make for an exciting movie.
Set in a dystopian Detroit, abandoned brick mansions left from better times now house only the most dangerous criminals. Unable to control the crime, the police have constructed a colossal containment wall around the area to protect the rest of the city. Walker plays an undercover cop who reluctantly teams up with an ex-con (Belle) to save his girlfriend from a drug kingpin (RZA).
In The Other Woman, Cameron Diaz stars as a woman who is trying to get her life back on track after discovering her boyfriend is married.
But when she accidentally meets the wife he’s been cheating on (Leslie Mann), she realizes they have much in common and they quickly move from being enemies to becoming friends. When they discover he has had an affair with yet another woman (Kate Upton), all three women team up to plot revenge on the three-timing man.
Also starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (best known as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones) and Nicki Minaj, this seemingly light-weight comedy is given a little gravitas with the help of director Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook).
Like Oculus a few weeks ago, The Quiet Ones is a horror movie for those who like their frights without a lot of blood and guts.
