One week after a strong debut of X-Men: Apocalypse, another comic book sequel looks to take the top spot at the box office.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows was inevitable after the first movie in this rebooted franchise grossed almost $500 million worldwide. Picking up where the first one left off, the Turtles are again in conflict with Shredder, who has hired scientist Dr. Baxter Stockman to create mutants of his own in the form of Bebop and Rocksteady, which look like a warthog and rhino respectively, to have his revenge on the “heroes in a half shell.” Meanwhile, the Turtles hope they can become humans when they discover a Retro-Mutagen while saving the world from an extraterrestrial invasion.
Silly story aside, fans will be overjoyed with the special affects and the cast which includes original stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett as well as the addition of Stephen Amell (TV’s Arrow).
If you are unfamiliar with the comedy trio The Lonely Island made up of Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone and Andy Samberg, you may know of some of the videos they produced that were shown on Saturday Night Live known as SNL Digital Shorts. They were mostly music videos that spoofed pop music in general with titles like I’m on a Boat, Like a ‘Boss’, YOLO and others with titles that cannot be repeated uncensored.
With their success on the venerable late night comedy show the group went on to release three studio albums. The Lonely Island have now teamed up with legendary comedy producer Judd Apatow (Trainwreck) and made the musical mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, a parody of music documentaries like Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.
Samberg plays pop artist Conner4Real, a world-famous recording artist with a massive fan base and 32 people on his personal payroll. The mockumentary follows Conner as he undergoes the ups and downs of the pop star life, especially after his second album Connquest is a flop and is forced to do whatever he can to stay in the spotlight. Many SNL cast members make appearances in the movie as well as number of music industry stars showing up as themselves.
Based upon the Jojo Moyes novel of the same name, Me Before You is a romantic drama starring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games).
Young and quirky Louisa “Lou” Clark (Clarke) moves from one job to the next to help her family make ends meet. Her cheerful attitude is put to the test when she becomes a caregiver for Will Traynor (Claflin), a wealthy young banker left paralyzed from an accident two years earlier. Will’s cynical outlook starts to change when Louisa shows him that life is worth living. As their bond deepens, their lives and hearts change in ways neither one could have imagined. It will be interesting to see Clarke in a different role than her character of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones or as Sarah Connor in last year’s Terminator Genisys.
