Deadline looms for juried Surrey art exhibit

Surrey arts council show will be both digital and in-person

Visual artists have until May 7 to submit their work for the upcoming Arts Council of Surrey juried show, Arts 2021.

The show is open to members of the arts council – including new members – or groups that have membership. This year’s show, set for June 5 to Aug. 29, will be both an in-person and a digital show, with work exhibited at Surrey Art Gallery (13750 88 Ave.), within COVID-19 safety guidelines, or online at the arts council’s website.

Awards for Arts 2021 will include a $150 first prize, a $100 second prize, a $50 third prize, an Honourable Mention ($25) and a People’s Choice Award.

Entries will be accepted in the categories of painting; drawing, mixed-media and printmaking on paper; sculptures and fibre art; photography; and digital, performative and ‘new media’ art.

Each artist can submit a maximum of three works for adjudication. Only one work in each category – to a maximum of two works total for each artist – will be selected for the exhibition.

Deadline for submissions is 1 p.m. on May 7.

Entry fees for members have been waived this year, although membership fees still apply.

To encourage applications by post-secondary art students, the membership requirement is waived with a copy of a valid student ID accompanying the entry form.
