Dean Brody and Dallas Smith are the ultimate ‘friend goals’

The pair are wrapping up their Friends Don't Let Friends Tour Alone tour

Country stars Dean Brody and Dallas Smith just may be the ultimate friend goals.

The pair are currently on their Friends Don’t Let Friends Tour Alone tour, alongside Chad Brownlee, The Reklaws and Mackenzie Porter, and Brody said the idea for it just came naturally.

“Dallas and I share a booking agent, and he’s also just a really good friend of ours, so we were hanging out at his house a lot and he was like ‘What do you guys think about this?’ and we both just thought it would be a really cool idea,” said Brody. “I really like Dallas and I’ve always respected his music and who he is as a person, so it was kind of a no-brainer once it was brought up.”

The theme of the tour is meant to be light-hearted, which is why the pair opted for a “Sears family portrait” style image as their promotional poster. Brody said they were with their photographer doing a “formal shoot” when they decided to get creative.

“We said ‘Why don’t we just do something really lame?’ and do like a Step Brothers picture or a Sears family portrait. And Chad Brownlee had his cardigan there so I was like ‘Hey man, can I borrow that?’ and I put it on,” said Brody. “It was just super lame and perfect.”

With Penticton being the second last stop on this tour, Brody said he was happy to note that everyone is in good spirits since it can be difficult with the stress of changing venues, busing to different cities and all of the other hassles that come with the gig.

“There’s been a lot of camaraderie and the moral is really high still at this point, which is good because it’s hard to do on a nation-wide tour with five different acts,” said Brody.

Though the urge to write new music may be tempting with the handful of other talented musicians on the tour, Brody said he has just been focused on giving a great performance during his set. He added that “when I get home, I’ll have some writing to do.”

The B.C.-native’s most recent single with Alan Doyle, We Don’t Wanna Go Home, has just hit the radio waves, using the momentum of his previous success this year with his EP Black Sheep and his #1 single Whiskey in a Teacup. The former has been charting as the top selling Canadian country single for 19 consecutive weeks.

Fans can expect a good mix of Brody’s music during his performance, with him adding that one of his older songs that he always seems to get a good reaction to is Mountain Man.

“It can be tough to decide which songs to cut and which songs to leave and which ones to take on. But with this tour they’re going to get a lot of high-energy songs, one or two slower tempo ones, but for the most part it is going to be as much energy as we can put out there in my setlist,” said Brody. “It’s funny that Mountain Man actually makes the cut a lot, and I wrote it a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but man it’s done very well. But when I sing that song every night that’s probably the moment that I take in the most.”

The Friends Don’t Let Friends tour stops in Penticton at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Oct. 25, and tickets are still available for purchase at www.soec.ca.
