Debate environmental assessments tonight at Philosopher’s Café

“Can you trust Environmental Assessments?”

It seems that trust in governments to adequately protect the environment while pursuing economic prosperity is low. All large-scale energy, resource extraction. waste disposal and infrastructure projects now face significant opposition from environmental groups, First Nations and local organizations.

The current federal government says it wants to restore trust in the environmental assessment process.

What would need to change before you could trust a government decision to move forward on a project that might place the local environment at risk?

How does a project earn social licence?

Captain Mal Walsh is a Master Mariner from Comox. He has over 40 years of experience in the international oil exploration and shipping industry.

Walsh will lead a discussion on how trust might be restored in the  environmental assessment process ath this month’s Philosopher’s Café tonight from 7-8 p.m. at Berwick by the sea, community room (beside the dining room) 1353 16th Ave. Campbell River.
