Enderby’s Runaway Moon Theatre is inviting the public to participate in a free workshop Sunday in regards to the remounting of its theatrical presentation, A Small Miracle.
Visiting theatre director Varrick Grimes will lead participants through a series of games, introducing fun and exciting ways to communicate meaning through non-verbal sound and non-verbal action.
“Humans communicate more through physical gesture and tone of sound, than we do through actual words,” said Grimes, a physical theatre instructor at Toronto’s Humber College, where Runaway Moon recently completed a residency.
Grimes has returned to Enderby to work on A Small Miracle after directing it in Stratford, where he lives with his wife and two children.
Grimes has also directed large-scale community performances in Newfoundland, Northern Ontario, Saskatchewan, England, and Philadelphia.
For this workshop, participants will learn ideas about acting in a group, physical storytelling, big and simple action, and the importance of rhythm in story.
“We are offering this workshop because it is fun, but also because we are working on a theatrical project that has no words at all,” said Runaway Moon’s artistic director Cathy Stubington.
The workshop is designed for all ages, and no acting experience is necessary. This will also be an opportunity to find out about A Small Miracle, and to participate in the show, which runs in December.
