It was a whirlwind three days of performances for 100 Mile House Junior Secondary’s cast of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr., which ran June 6-8 at the school, but they got through it.
Thirty-six students were involved in the musical, which had two performances each day.
Interest in the play was so high teacher Lisa Dugaro, who directed the musical, formed two separate casts, so there were roles for the great talent.
She even went so far as to cast four different actresses for the lead role of Belle.
“The students had a great time doing the play, although I think that six shows in three days may have worn them out a bit.”
A number of the props may have looked familiar to anyone who saw Beauty and the Beast performed at the school in 2007. Dugaro says they retooled and improved a couple of the old props, including Lumiere’s candlesticks, which were hollowed out and made to light up, and the book- case, which was spruced up and given casters to make moving it easier.
Dugaro says ticket sales for each performance were generally good, except for the Saturday matinee.
She couldn’t comment on the future of the school’s musical theatre program following the amalgamation in September of the Junior Secondary and Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School.
