A new set of exhibitions this month at the McMillan Art Centre features three diverse and intriguing bodies of work.
Work by photographer Brandon Geisatdoerfer-Munger, called Media Blitz, explores the advertising overload seen in and around urban environments.
Previously from the Midwest, this New York resident often captures the calm and simple moments in a hectic world. His work can be seen in the Nemeth Gallery.
In the Oceanside Gallery, Andy Shutse Lou displays the Beauty of Rice Paper.
This Chinese artist has been teaching drawing, watercolor painting and Chinese brush painting for many years in Texas and California as well as at the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria.
His vivid and intricate work has been exhibited and collected internationally.
Finally an exhibition by Alexandra Edmonds features paintings of 21 Century Fox actresses from the 1940s, called Pinups of History. She translates the powerful photographic images of the women onto abstract backgrounds, seeking to integrate history and it’s relationship to female iconography.
The results are enticing and powerful, oil and acrylic paintings.
The public is invited to a reception Thursday, April 7 at the MAC to meet the artists from 7 to 9 p.m.
The exhibitions run from April 5 to April 30 at the MAC (formerly the OCAC) located at 133 McMillan Street in Parksville.
