When Don Portelance started working on his new show at the Fort Gallery, he quickly realized he would need every bit of space on the gallery walls.

Always interested in exploring a wide range of subjects with a variety of approaches, he saw his work moving in two separate directions. One is a series of abstractions including six large banners based on personal life experiences; the other, more recognizable abstractions inspired by his travels.

Although different, the two themes have much in common and come together to make a unified statement.

Titled Progressions, the exhibit will run at the Fort Gallery from Sept. 19 to Oct. 14.

The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Fort Gallery is located at 9048 Glover Rd.
