International stars Michael Bridge and Kornel Wolak appear in concert on Friday, March 8 at Abbotsford’s Matsqui Centennial Auditorium as Double Double Duo.
The concert begins at 7 p.m.
Described as “a wizard of the accordion,” Bridge is internationally renowned for his warm stage personality, stereotype-smashing versatility, and blazing virtuosity.
He is named one of CBC’s “30 Hot Classical Musicians Under 30,” and made his solo orchestral debut with the Boston Pops at 17.
Bridge gives over 100 concerts per year in Europe and the Americas.
Encompassing the diversity of his live performances, his debut album Overture launched in 2018 and was named CBC Album of the Week.
Wolak on clarinet has an impressive record of competition prizes and collaborations, including performances with Quartetto Gelato, and orchestras in Europe and the Americas.
The duo will be accompanied by the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra and will perform a variety of Latin American works such as Tico-Tico by De Abreu, Por Una Cabeza by Gardel, and the virtuosic Suite LatinoAmericana by Cuban/Canadian composer Hilario Duran.
In addition, Calvin Dyck will perform the Vivaldi Double Violin Concerto in A minor along with one of the newest members of Abbotsford’s professional music community, Christine Lin.
Lin has her master’s in violin performance from UBC, where she studied with Jasper Wood. She performs with Vancouver Opera and the Vancouver Island Symphony.
and in 2013 received a Juno award for playing the violin solo in The Canadian Tenors’ album.
