Program takes place Sunday, Jan. 26 at Central Heights Church

The Doxa Band presents a free worship event in Abbotsford on Sunday, Jan. 26.

The event takes place at 7 p.m. at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Rd.

Doxa was a hugely popular worship event in the late 1990s and early 2000s, drawing 1,500 youth and young adults weekly, “and this was before anyone had cellphones or social media,” says Vijay Manuel, Doxa leader.

The event this year has included the following tagline: “Less about yesterday, more about now.”

Manuel said that, although there will be some of the old-school music, the event is focused on giving people a chance to worship God together and consider how they can take the experience with them to make a positive impact in the world around them.

“It’s so fun to sing the old songs, but the message remains true to this day, and that’s what we’ll be focusing on,” Manuel said.

The band will be composed of three original members – Manuel (acoustic guitar), Dustin Freund (bass) and Jared Falk (drums) – and will welcome Matthew Taylor on electric guitar and Nathan Bosch on keyboards.

Manuel’s high-school-aged children, Misha and Jada, will also join the band with vocals and acoustic guitar.
