The Cumberland Lifers’ Drawing Group is presenting its third annual show, this year hosted at the Pearl Ellis Gallery.

The exhibition is available to view and purchase original works until April 11.

The show features recent works by 22 artists from the Comox Valley. Over 100 pieces of drawings and paintings blanket the gallery walls, offering a rich, exhilarating survey of the nude human figure.

Representing a broad range of drawing and painting, the work is unified conceptually through a shared exploration of the human figure. The exhibit is a group snapshot of various life drawers and their personal styles and ways of working. The viewer experiences the creation process, for the exhibit includes a variety of quick sketches to long works in many poses.

The nude model has always featured strongly in any artist’s training, a difficult genre and therefore the most “educative” one. The technical challenges of life or figure drawing are considerable — proportion, foreshortening, form, line and tone, but the interpretation is perhaps more so.

Participants are: Clive Powsey, Victoria Scott, Marion Bryon, Aline Hoffart, Dawn Copeman, Julie Reynolds, Dorothy Manser, Judith Jancowski, Henrie Beaudoin, Maryann Kym Coyle, Betty Boyle, Joanne Stoeckl, April Dyck, Roger Albert,  Karen Martin Sampson, Penny Kelly, Sophie Skapski, Lynda Glover, Brian Buckrell, Diana Caldwell and Bonnie Davy.

The Pearl Ellis Gallery is at 1729 Comox Ave. beside the Lions Den in Comox. The exhibit continues daily from 1 to 4 p.m. until April 11.
