For 23 years, actors have been dressing up in period costume to depict the rich Shuswap history at R.J. Haney Heritage Village.
This year’s Villains and Vittles Dinner Theatre productions is The Dress.
Hidden away in the wardrobe of R.J. Haney Heritage Village is a wedding dress from the early 1900s.
“Every wedding dress has a story, but few can compare with the story of this dress,” says village manager Susan Mackie. “The bride for whom it was intended never wore it. It is a story of intrigue and betrayal, of stolen love and hot tempers, of world travel and young men going to war.”
It is also a story of sisters and brothers and world-famous explorers, and it will be revealed on the stage of the SASCU Amphitheatre at the village.
“Our talented cast, Timothy Wicker, Carly Pullin, Chad Baker and Joy Peters will take you on an amazing adventure full of song and dance that begins and ends with — a dress,” Mackie says.
Local playwright Peter Blacklock has once again taken on writing and directing duties for this Haney dinner theatre offering – his seventh.
Opening night is July 1, with shows every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evening in July and August, and a special matinee performance on Thursday, Aug. 18. The evening includes a home cooked dinner with all the pioneer fixings served from Marjorie’s Tea Room. Dessert follows the play with homemade rhubarb crisp and ice cream.
Reservations are a must. Tickets are $27 for adults, $24 for seniors and $14 for children five to 13. There is no charge for children four and under.
