Winner of both the Best Performance and the Audience Award at the recent Whistler Film Festival, Cas & Dylan, a smart, funny and heartfelt film will be shown by the Vernon Film Society at the Towne Theatre on Monday.
Following in the tradition of Canadian road movies such as Goin’ Down the Road and One Week, the film follows Dr. Cas Pepper (Richard Dreyfuss), a curmudgeonly surgeon whose only companion in life is his dog, as he leaves Winnipeg to travel to B.C.
Before leaving, he meets an aspiring young writer named Dylan (Tatiana Maslany) who possesses a life-altering secret and wouldn’t mind coming along for the ride.
The two unlikely companions hit the road, encountering a series of bizarre twists and turns along their cross-country journey.
It isn’t long before they realize that, in searching for an escape route, they may have found their place in the world.
Beautifully shot against the background of the prairies and the Rocky Mountains, Cas & Dylan is a voyage of discovery.
Actor-turned-filmmaker Jason Priestley’s wealth of experience as an actor is obvious in the performances he extracts from his two leads.
Boasting a terrific soundtrack featuring Canadian artists, Cas & Dylan will appeal to audiences young and old.
Cas & Dylan will screen March 17 at the Towne Theatre at regular times of 5:15 and 7:45 pm. Tickets are available one week ahead at the Towne Theatre and the Bean Scene for $7. Everyone is welcome – you do not need to be a member.
The Vernon Film Society is celebrating its 30th anniversary and, as a thank you to loyal patrons, is offering passes for any five movies for $30. These passes will be available for purchase at regular movie nights and will expire at the end of December, 2014.
