DuffleBag Theatre creates a hilarious twist on the classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

Audience participation brings unique style to classic Christmas show at Chilliwack Cultural Centre

You won’t need to wait for Christmas Eve for the arrival of Santa, as Dufflebag Theatre brings the magic of Christmas to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre with their hilarious twist on the holiday classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

With visions of sugar-plums and a clatter of hoof beats, St. Nicholas makes his grand return to Chilliwack on Dec. 16. Full of surprising plot twists, plenty of laughs and even audience participation, this show will keep audience members of all ages enthralled.

You can expect nothing but the ultimate entertainment, excitement, and energy when the folks of DuffleBag take to the stage, and this whimsical take on the treasured Clement Clarke Moore poem is no exception. While delivering joy to all the children, Santa seems to have mislaid his sack of presents and what’s worse is that Old Man Winter is determined to stop him from finding it. It’s up to the help of Mrs. Claus, the reindeer, and you to stop Christmas from being cancelled.

Taking the incredibly creative and vibrant imaginations of the kids and inviting them up on stage to dive into the show, the magic at the heart of “the nearly world famous” DuffleBag Theatre’s shows lies in their audience. Using the suggestions and improvisations from their young co-performers, the professional actors are able to fill each performance with exciting and delightfully unpredictable twists and turns.

DuffleBag has performed at festivals and schools across Canada since 1992, and now performs more than 600 shows each year internationally. The group has more than 15 English and French productions in their repertoire, including Peter Pan, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Robin Hood, and even some children’s adaptions of Shakespeare plays like Romeo and Juliet and MacBeth.

“For the audience, the shared experience of being part of one of our performance is unlike any other,” says the artistic director and founding member Marcus Lundren. “Our shows are the sort of thing that families love to come together and share – there’s a lot of joy and humour, it’s a truly fantastic family experience. It’s something that will no doubt be reenacted around the dinner table later that night.”

So grab the kids and join DuffleBag Theatre for an afternoon of unforgettable family entertainment when they bring ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to the Cultural Centre.
