Musicians: Torsten Mueller and Phil Minton

Vancouver bassist Torsten Mueller and UK vocalist Phil Minton will be appearing together in concert on Nov. 10 at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art in Kelowna.
This performance is the third installment of the Skin and Bones Music Series, a new concert series devoted to the presentation of experimental music in the Okanagan.
Torsten Mueller famously began his career as a radio host and producer in Bremen, Germany. Coming into the free improvised music scene in the mid 70s, Mueller has performed across the globe extensively throughout his career.
Making Vancouver his home since 2001, Mueller now performs regularly at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. On the five string double bass, he is considered a master of implementing extended techniques on his instrument.
British free improviser Phil Minton is one of the very few vocalists whose technique and sensibility make him a true virtuoso instrumentalist. Hailing from the UK, Minton is best known for his completely free-form work, which similarly involves extended techniques that can be as unsettling as they are mesmerizing.
His commanding presence, seemingly impossible multiphonics, and irrepressible humor have confounded and delighted audiences around the world for many decades.
Performing at the Alternator, the duo of Torsten Mueller and Phil Minton will debut at the Skin and Bones Music Series on Nov. 10. Doors open at 7:30 pm and the performance will begin at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for public and $8 for Alternator members. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Alternator or at the door.
The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art is an artist-run centre located in Kelowna at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, 421 Cawston Avenue. The Alternator is a registered non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the development of the creative community. Since 1989 the Alternator has shown the work of emerging Canadian artists, focused on innovative and non-traditional mediums engaged in social and cultural issues.
