A Quebec duo will be in the Harbour City next week to perform a suite of songs based on the works of poet P.K. Page.
On Oct. 23, award winning dancer and singer Susanna Hood along with trombonist and composer Scott Thomson will be at the Harbour City Theatre to perform their multifaceted project, The Muted Note.
“At its basis, it is a suite of songs,” explained Thomson. “I am a composer and I set the poems to music to be sung by Susanna and we perform them in different contexts.”
Thomson originally planned to write one song for Hood, but found that the more he dove into Page’s work, the more songs he could create.
“I set out to write one song and it worked pretty well and … in the end there was suite of 11,” he said.
Those 11 songs would eventually end up on Thomson and Hood’s record, The Muted Note.
In addition to their performance, Hood and Thomson will be holding a workshop, where they will explore the relationships between written text, music, and dance through improvisation.
The Muted Note takes place at the Harbour City Theatre, 25 Victoria Rd., on Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $5 to $30. The workshop will take place on Oct. 22 at the Solace Wellness Centre, 719 Fitzwilliam St., at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 to $20.
