Dutch cellist Harriet Krijgh will be performing in the upcoming Maple Ridge Music Society Candlelight series.
The 25-year-old made her debut this season with the Boston Symphony and Andris Nelsons at the Boston Symphony Hall and with Sydney Symphony and Robert Spano at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
She also made her North American debut at recitals in San Francisco, the Lincoln Centre in New York and in Vancouver.
Krijgh has received many prestigious awards, including first prize and audience award prize at the Amsterdam Cello Biennale in 2012, the WEMAG-Soloists prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in 2013 and was chosen as the “Rising Star” of the European Concert Hall Organization for 2015-2016.
She plays a Giovanni Paolo Maggini cello from 1620.
Krijgh will be performing alongside Magda Amara on piano.
Amara has played in concert halls across Europe.
Born in Moscow, Amara graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory with Sergei Dorensky and completed her studies with Stefan Vladar at the University of Music in Vienna.
As a devoted chamber musician, she is laureate of 11 international competitions, including first prize at the Jeunesses Musicales and Ennio Porrino Piano Competitions and third at the Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition.
The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. on March 4 at Westacres, a 20-acre farm just at 23575 – 124 Avenue, Maple Ridge.
The music room holds 140 seats and looks out onto a beaver pond, surrounded by large cedar trees.
The duo will be performing Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Sonata for cello and piano Nr. 2 in D major, Op. 58, Robert Schumann’s 3 Romances for cello and piano, Op. 94 and Sergej Rachmaninoff’s Sonata for cello and piano in G minor, Op. 19.
