It’s time to get egg-cited about another chocolate-filled weekend in District 69 with a host of activities scheduled throughout the community.
In Qualicum Beach there is an Easter bunny search at Milner Gardens and Woodland April 7 to April 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Find bunnies for an Easter treat and learn interesting rabbit facts as you stroll along the forest trails.
There will be maps for clues to help find the hidden bunnies. Local glass artist Ted Jolda will be hiding a few of his hand blown Easter eggs Saturday through Monday. If you find one of the glass treasures, you get to take it home. Admission is free for children 12 and under but they must be accompanied by an adult.
If you want to see a real live Easter bunny, Tiger Lily Farm in Errington is the place to be this weekend.
Eggs will be hidden throughout the barnyard. Those who find them can then decorate them and make an Easter basket to bring them home in. There will also be a hay maze and a candy in the hay game. Easter activities in the barnyard go April 6 to 9 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
In Parksville, the Friends of Foster Park Easter egg hunt is set for Saturday, April 7. Volunteers will start hiding the eggs around 10 a.m. and it’s expected they will be scooped up by around 1:30 p.m. There will also be hot dogs, juice and coffee available.
The annual Riptide Lagoon Adventure Golf Giant Easter Egg Hunt is Sunday, April 8. Five thousand Easter eggs have been hidden and at 9:30 a.m. the search begins.
Organizer Kathy Fraser is expecting to see a small army of chocolate-smeared faces once all the treats are found.
She said the hunt will be controlled as the kids descend on the Parksville fun centre to seek out the treats.
“We put the little kids in one area — the little little ones — so they aren’t being bowled over by bigger kids,” she said. “We put out six marked golf balls along with all the Easter eggs and the lucky people who find them get a giant stuffed bunny. There will also be some consolation prizes that include free passes.
The event, designed for children aged 10 and under, is mostly about filling the need for fun. However, Fraser said she’s hoping to fill another need as well.
“It’s free to everybody, but we will have one of the Salvation Army kettles and some totes at our front gate and we are asking people to give cash or non perishable food item donations for the Food Bank,” she said.
