ECHO Player production in looking for just the right man

One last role to cast in first ECHO show of season in Qualicum Beach: Enchanted April

Are you a young, dapper British man who owns an Italian castle?

Well, no matter… Think you could play one?

Wendy Punter, the director for the ECHO Players’ production of Enchanted April is on the lookout for the play’s last cast member.

She’s looking for a man age 25-45 (though you could be 60 and look 45) to play the role of attractive male artist Anthony Wilding — a gentle sort who appreciates women on an intellectual level and happens to own an Italian castle for rent.

Though the other seven members of the cast have already been found and have begun rehearsing, said Punter, finding her Wilding has proven difficult.

Punter’s looking for someone who’s been bitten by the acting bug, or who has always wanted to try their hand at acting and is ready to commit to rehearsals and 14 performances in three weeks, starting with the premier on October 11.

The play itself (ECHO Players’ first of the 2018/19 season) is a funny, romantic reprieve from the gloom of ordinary life, and set in the more genteel time of the 1920s, said Punter.

Enchanted April literally takes viewers from a dreary, cold London setting to an idyllic Italian castle where a group of four very different women find respite, their lives re-energized.

“We get such a range of different characters. The interaction with them is delightful and funny, and sometimes even moving,” said Punter.

Punter said she’s quite happy with the cast she’s collected so far, which includes a man from Courtenay who is taking up acting for the first time. He nonetheless aced his audition, said Punter, and is ready to learn and take direction.
