The En’owkin Centre is offering a rare chance to see Polaris-prize winning artist Tanya Tagaq perform in an intimate venue.
Tagaq is renowned for her passionate, other-worldly performances that blend traditional throat singing, metal, rock and contemporary styles.
An Inuk from Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, on the south coast of Victoria Island Tagaq’s awards also include the 2015 Juno for Aboriginal Recoding of the Year for her album Animism as well as Aboriginal Recording of the Year, Spiritual Recording of the Year and World Recording of the Year at the 2015 Western Canadian Music Awards.
In 2017, he album Going Home Star earned her the 2017 Juno for Classical Album of the Year – Large Ensemble.
Thought primarily known for her singing, Tagaq is a multi-talented artist and novelist. Her first novel Split Tooth, released on Sept. 25, has already been shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.
The En’owkin Centre is holding a potluck feast and celebration on Oct. 11 starting at 6 p.m. with the evening ending with a short performance by Tagaq.
