Grownups like to share their love of reading, and win prizes too.
Library staff members were inspired to create an Adult Reading Program because of the longstanding successful Summer Reading Club program for children.
“Adults often comment on the activities and contests associated with the children’s Summer Reading Club, wishing we offered something similar for adults,” said Sharon Walker, library manager. “We thought that it could be a lot of fun to offer such a program and that it was about time adults were rewarded for their reading too.”
This year there is a hot beverage theme to the program. Just like the children’s Summer Reading Club, Hot Reads for Cold Nights — Adult Reading Program features fun games, special events, and an opportunity to share book reviews (espresso yourself).
Need some reading suggestions? Attend the adult reading program kick-off event on Saturday, Jan. 29 from 2 to 3 p.m. Virginia and Sharon — also known as the Book Baristas — will serve up hot, fresh reads along with coffee, tea and prizes. The Adult Reading Program is designed to be flexible enough to fit in with busy schedules.
Readers can start the program anytime between Jan. 29 and March 19 and they can enter the contests whenever they show their mugs (pun intended) at the Sidney/North Saanich branch of the Vancouver Island Regional Library.
